Arrival and departure zones will be set up so as to allow the different competitions to be followed at close hand and in the best possible conditions. To be precise: stands, marquees, food stalls, television screens, Internet connections, etc. The City of Lausanne is committed to meeting the technology and logistical criteria laid down in the specifications. Chalet-à-Gobet – Jorat The forest of Jorat, one of the canton’s largest forests on the level, covering an undulating plateau at an average height of 800 metres and peaking at 929 metres, is only three kilometres from the heart of Lausanne. It will be the setting for the longdistance and relay races. Holding two competitions on the same site will make it possible to use one and the same base for the races. Vidy – Parc Bourget Lake Geneva’s biggest beach and biggest open space. Laid out following the Swiss National Exhibition of 1964, this large recreational area is 10 minutes’ walk from the port of Ouchy. A place where the residents of Lausanne and district meet up with family and friends, the beach is a series of sandy, lakeside coves separated by rocky embankments which are a haven for birds. The Vidy site, intersected by small areas of woodland, is popular with the people of Lausanne all year round, whether to enjoy sport (excellent infrastructures for beach volleyball, basketball, tennis, athletics and football), or simply to recharge their batteries in calm and peaceful surroundings on the shores of Lake Geneva. Its proximity to the port of Ouchy will enable the race centre to benefit from existing infrastructures for the opening ceremony. La Givrine
Situated mid-way between Geneva and Lausanne at an altitude of 1208 m, the Col de la Givrine is one of the gateways to the Vaudois Jura. A superb canvas, with its alpine pastures, forests, peaks and lakes, the Vaudois Jura is also a fabulous playground waiting to be discovered on foot, by mountain bike or through its tourist destinations. This dream natural landscape, still unexplored by orienteering, has another major advantage: its ease of access. The Givrine region is in fact 50 km from Lausanne. It is easily accessible both by train (1hr15) and road (45 minutes). It is the location of choice for middle-distance races.
